About Harmeet
Be you, be art.
Harmeet Kaur Virdee (she/they) is a double bassist, composer, and arts administrator from Surrey BC. She graduated from the Arts and Entertainment Management program at Capilano University and the VSO Performance Prep Program. Currently Harmeet is continuing her music studies at the University of Toronto in the Jazz program. Over the years she has studied with established musicians such as Jodi Proznick, Miles Black, and Noah Franche-Nolan.

As a musician and composer Harmeet gains inspiration from the sounds and behaviours of nature, visual arts, and human emotions. She strives for her music to connect to something bigger than herself, and for it to resonate and touch any listeners. Harmeet believes that music is a powerful form of expression and communication. Music has the ability to express thoughts, emotions, and feelings that words lack and can connect us with others on a deeper level.
In addition to performing Harmeet is the Founder and Artistic Director of Surrey Jazz Nights. Surrey Jazz Nights is non-profit organization with the mission to "build community through the celebration of artists in Surrey." They present monthly music series that feature youth and emerging musicians, along with regular workshops, and jam sessions. All events are free and open for anyone to attend.

Harmeet has been teaching music since 2018 and loves working with students of all ages, from 3 year olds to seniors. Harmeet is currently offering online and in-person lessons/workshops for double bass, and private lessons for guitar, flute, and ukulele.
